Khartoum – The African Union (AU) has invited Sudan Government for an informal meeting with the rebel movements of Darfur in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
Dr Amin Omar, Director of Darfur Peace Bureau, on Tuesday in Khartoum confirmed the invitation on a date yet to be fixed.
He said the invitation also renewed government insistence that the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) would be the basis for any peaceful settlement to the Darfur question.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Omar said that the Sudan Liberation Movement of Minni Minawe (SLM/MM) and Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) would take part in the informal meeting.
The three parties held a formal round of talks in December last year, which was inconclusive.
The AU mediation led by former South African President Thabo Mbeki has resorted to informal meetings to try softening the stance of the two sides to the conflict in Darfur. (PANA/NAN)
