Port Harcourt – The Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) plans to establish a vegetable farm to produce organic fruits, according to the Managing Director, Mr Onoye Beredugo.
Beredugo said in a statement issued on Wednesday in Port Harcourt, that the authority was partnering Mildred Transgold Medical Equipment Ventures to achieve the goal.
The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that the company is a corporate agro-allied developer and processor of agricultural products.
The statement said that the partnership between NDBDA and the company was geared toward the establishment a functional organic farm.
It said that the farm would produce water melon, carrot, cucumbers and okro, among other vegetables in commercial quantities.
It said that the partnership was in line with the Federal Government’s policy on public private sector partnership.
According to the statement, NDBDA would make available its four-hectare farmland situated at Egberu community in Oyigbo local government area of the state for the project.
The statement quoted the Managing Director of the company, Mr Samuel Okere, as pledging optimum utilisation of the farmland.
It stressed that Okere also promised effective service delivery in terms of adequate farm produce. (NAN)
