KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has scheduled for next month hearing on top Malaysian shuttler Lee Chong Wei’s doping case, a senior Malaysian badminton official said on Tuesday.
A three-man panel from the BWF was set to hear the doping case against Lee on April 11 in Amsterdam, according to Badminton Association of Malaysia deputy President Mohamad Zakaria.
Zakaria said the BWF could decide on the former world number one badminton player’s case on the same day.
Lee faces a maximum two-year ban after he tested positive for the banned substance dexamethasone at the World Championships in Copenhagen last August.
The 32-year-old Malaysian badminton icon, who has been provisionally suspended from competing after his positive test, told local television station Astro Awani that he was relieved a date has been set for the hearing on his case.
“It has been five months since I last played in a tournament.

“ To some extent, it has affected me – perhaps not physically but mentally,’’ he told Astro Awani.
“The qualifying for the Olympics starts in May so I am hoping for a favourable result.’’ (Dpa/NAN)
