Lagos – The Minority Leader of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Akeem Bello, on Friday said he believed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would conduct credible congresses in the state.
Bello, a PDP member representing Amunwo Odofin II at the Assembly, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that all was set for the party’s congresses, which begin at the ward level on Saturday.
“I believe we are going to conduct credible congresses. We are fully prepared for the forthcoming congresses of the PDP in this state.
“I believe all necessary steps and materials have been put in place,’’ he said.
Bello urged members of the party to shun violence that could mar the process.
“Let our members remain calm; we don’t need violence in the party.
“We need to be united for us to change our fortune. Creating violence will not help the party to move forward,” Bello said.
The lawmaker, however, urged the leadership of the party to give room for the youth to help develop the party.
“The youth own the party across levels. They have the strength to move round to strategise and mobilise.
“With youth engagement, there is hope. We are not condemning the elders or the leaders, but the youth should be allowed to carry the party to greater height,” he said.
On zoning, Bello said that there was a need for a fair structure to allow peace to reign in the party.
He urged the national leaders of the party to allow Alhaji Ali-Modu Sheriff to stabilise the party. (NAN)
