JOS (Sundiata Post) – Men of the Special Task Force on security in Jos also known as Operation Safe Haven, have been drafted to the streets of Jos following a stampede at the popular Ahmadu Bello Way. The incident happened around 5.30 pm as traders were closing shop and buyers making last minute purchases.
The cause of the stampede was yet to be determined, but traders hurriedly closed shops as motorists made dramatic turn in order not to be caught in the stampede.
However Sundiata Post gathered that the stampede followed rumours that a Hausa trader who travelled was yet to return.
His colleagues in the market were said to have raised the alarm.
Indeed there was utter chaos as people randomly helter skelter without knowing the direction the stampede was coming from.
Another source said the problem was said to have started at the popular Katako market where Igbo traders were said to have hurriedly closed shops following threat by Hausa traders
A detachment of soldiers in three Hilux cars were seen racing to the scene.
Efforts to contact the STF Media Officer have not been successful.
