ABUJA (Sundiata Post) Babatunde Raji Fashola says that building professionals ought to be jailed whenever buildings collapse. We jail doctors for medical malpractice, he says, why not building professionals for building malpractice?
Noble sentiments. Except that the same Fashola treated TB Joshua like a rock star when the “Prophet’s” illegal building collapsed in 2014. Fashola paid a full photo-ops visit to TB Joshua and his building professionals. This was shortly after Fashola’s own commissioner for physical planning had declared that the building was illegal because TB Joshua had no official state government approval for a five-storey structure.
Fashola did not lift a finger against TB Joshua. It was the biggest loss of South African lives outside South Africa. The South Africans wanted answers. The Nigerian state started to shield TB Joshua by delaying visas for South African media groups who wanted to come and interview the man.
Just a little reminder of his antecedents before we celebrate Fashola as a crusader for victims of illegal building collapses.
Nigerians are not great with the memory thingy.
