Abuja, – The Journalists International Forum for Migration (JIFORM) says it will be awarding exceptional individuals who have contributed to global advocacy for safe migration in its forth-coming International summit in Canada.
Ms Teresa Jacob, Communication Secretary of the summit disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the third edition of the JIFORM Summit scheduled to hold from Oct. 1 to 10 in Toronto, Canada is with the theme: “Exploring the Benefits of Migration, Post COVID-19”.
According to Jacob, Gerry Weiner, former Canadian Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, among others will be honoured with international leadership awards.
She noted that Dr Lateefat Kolapo, Chief Executive Officer, the Point Newspapers, Nigeria, would speak on the challenges of journalists on migration reportage.
Jacob also quoted JIFORM’s President, Ajibola Abayomi, from Nigeria as saying that “time has come for all of us to be involved to understand the dynamism of migration .
“And show love to migrants by encouraging them to understand that regular migration remains the only profitable human mobility.
“JIFORM shall continue to serve as a rallying point to engage stakeholders and the media on the need to also report that which is factual with human face about migration because human lives are involved.”
Jacob listed other recipients of the award to include; Prince Yinka Farinde, the CEO, Abedorc Productions Inc Canada, Prof. Byron Price of Medgar Evers College, City University, Brooklyn, Dr Adrew Nevin.
The Home for Needy, a foundation in Benin, Edo, dedicated to care services for victims of forced migration and other less privileged in society had also been listed as recipient of the award.
Guest speakers at the event included; Festus Keyamo (SAN) from Nigeria, Prof. Patrick Lumumba, Sierra Leonean Minister of Labour and Social Security Sierra Leone amongst others.
The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) will also be in full participation at the Summit. (NAN)
