Lafia – Gov. Tanko Al-makura of Nasarawa State on Sunday urged Christians and other Nigerians to imbibe the spirit of love and sacrifice in the interest of peace and national development.
The call is in his Christmas message by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Ahmed Tukur, made available in Lafia on Sunday.
Al-Makura also urged Christians and other Nigerians to use the festive period to promote peace, unity and extend hands of friendship to the needy to improve on their standard of living for the overall development of the country.
He stated that “as Christians all over the world celebrate the season of Christmas in commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ, it is important to preach peace, love and unity.”
“I, Umaru Tanko Al-makura the Governor of Nasarawa State, on behalf of the government and good people of the state, felicitate with Christians in the state and the world over.
“My dear people of Nasarawa State, as you are aware, the birth of Jesus Christ ushered in orientation of Christian theology love, peace, good neighbourliness and sacrifice. This, as you may recall, are the virtues which Jesus Christ embodied.
“The feast of Christmas, therefore, is celebrated to reflect on the teachings of Christ and imbibe his enviable qualities of humility, selflessness, love, moral rectitude, among others.”
The governor, who urged Christians and other Nigerians to avoid ostentation and extravagant spending during the yuletide, called for prayers for peace to reign in the country and the world.
