MAKURDI- Coalition of Civil Society for Good Governance in Benue has applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his timely assistance to the flood victims in the state.

It gave the commendation on Sunday in Makurdi in a statement signed the convener, Mr Paul Gajir and the Secretary, Mr Onuh Apeh.

“We are grateful to President Buhari for always coming to the aid of flood victims in Benue. This is one of the many clear examples of Mr President’s disposition to address issues that affect the common people.

“It is no surprise that Mr President, through relevant agencies, is committed to cushioning the effect of the disaster on the people.

“Benue happens to be at the forefront of states that have benefited from the commendable leadership of his initiative,’’ it stated.

The coalition noted that NEMA had been on ground and ensuring that the needful was done to mitigate the effect of flooding in the state.

It added that the presidential intervention and relief materials provided for the people through NEMA gave renewed hope and faith in Nigeria.

The coalition also appreciated the Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, who undertook an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in Benue and in other states in the country that experienced flooding.

“In the case of Benue, he ensured that the distribution of relief materials was timely to ensure that life returned to normal in the affected communities.

“The activities of NEMA in mitigating the effect of the flooding in Benue are top-notch. Therefore, it is our opinion that under its present leadership, NEMA has lived up to expectations in disaster management.

“We pledge to continue to support the laudable initiatives of the President Buhari-led administration geared towards sustainable growth and development in the country,’’ the coalition also stated. (NAN)
