Abuja – Rev. Fr John Oluoma, Parish Priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, has urged the Federal Government to shun pettiness in governance and concentrate more on sensitive problems bedeviling the country.
Oluoma made the appeal at a news conference ahead of the public presentation of his new music album entitled ‘His Presence’ scheduled to be released on July 16, in Abuja.
He spoke against the backdrop of the controversy that trailed the alleged removal of Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) from education curriculum of schools across the country.
The cleric called for an end to bigotry and animosity among different religious faithful in Nigeria, adding that continuous promotions of such wrong-headed values had done no good to Nigeria.
He, however, attributed the backwardness of the country in virtually all sectors to attachment of things that do not contribute to the socio-economic development of Nigeria.
The Catholic Priest urged both political and religious leaders to take steps that would cement the unity of Nigeria rather than promoting division.
According to him, we need not to raise issues where there is none. Its immature that as a country, we are still battling with the issue of religious bigotry.
`That will not take us anywhere near socio-economic development.
“The government should stop being petty and stocking controversies, our country is still battling religious bigotry, government will do well by trying to avoid unnecessary controversies.
“I am not sure there was any need in the first place to change the status quo with regards to Christian Religious Knowledge (CRK) as a subject,’’
On the new album, he explained that the eight-track album was produced to serve as a tool of evangelism through which people would be blessed and souls won for Christ. (NAN)
