Lagos – A commercial bus driver, Tunde Terry, was on Friday arraigned in a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl.
Terry, 33, whose residential address was not stated, is being tried on a charge of unlawful carnal knowledge of a minor.
The prosecutor, Insp. Rita Momah, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Sept. 25, 2015 at about 10 a.m. in an uncompleted building located behind Akinyele Secondary School, Alakuko, Lagos.

Momah said that the accused that frequents a restaurant close to the victim’s house lured her to an uncompleted building and had canal knowledge of her.
She explained that the victim later told her father about the incident.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for anyone found guilty of child rape.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs F.A Adeeyo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till March 9. (NAN)
