Awe (Nasarawa State) – Alhaji Umar Abubakar, the Chairman, Awe Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has promised to do everything within his powers to curb the incessant farmers/headers clashes in the area.
Abubakar made the pledge on Friday, while inaugurating the Deputy Chairman and other elected councillors at the council headquarters.
He said that his administration would adopt community-based conflict resolution mechanism to put an end to the menace.
He expressed worry that the crisis had seriously affected the current planting season, saying that most farmers in the area could no longer go to farm for fear of attack.
The council chairman, however, commended Gov. Umaru Al-Makura for the measures he initiated to check fresh attacks on communities by suspected herders.
He said that no society could develop in an atmosphere of rancour, hence the need for all parties to give peace a chance for the development of the area.
He enjoined the councillors to join hands with the executive to ensure enduring peace in the council.
“I advocate a cordial working relationship between the executive and legislature for the overall development of the entire council area.”
Abubakar also warned that henceforth, the management would no longer condole absenteeism, lateness and other negative attitude to work. (NAN)
