Court remands 2 traders in prison for assaulting policeman

Senior Magistrates’ Court in Mararaba, Nasarawa StateLAGOS – An Igbosere Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded two traders — Alhaji Abba and Mogaji Mohammed — in Ikoyi Prisons, Lagos, for allegedly assaulting a policeman.

The Magistrate, Miss A. Tobi, ordered that the accused should be kept behind bars following their guilty plea to charges of conspiracy, receiving stolen property and assault. [eap_ad_2] She fixed Sept. 30 for facts and sentence.

Abba, 26, and Mohammed, 25, whose addresses are unknown, are facing charges of conspiracy, assault and receiving stolen property.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Adebayo Oladele told the court that the traders committed the offences at 6.00 p.m. on Sept. 19 at Adeola Hopewell St., Victoria Island, Lagos.

He said the accused received 125 litres of diesel from an accomplice still at large.

Oladele alleged that the accused also assaulted one Insp. Gabriel Ejeh attached to the Bar Beach Police Station while trying to arrest them over alleged crime.

“The traders while resisting the arrests, inflicted serious injuries on the right hand of Ejeh.’’

The offences violated Sections 172, 326 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused may be sentenced to 14 years imprisonment each on conviction.(NAN) [eap_ad_3]
