Ilorin – A Senior Magistrates’ court in Ilorin on Friday ordered the remand of three artisans, Yusuf Rafiu, welder, Kehinde Jimoh, barber, and Abdulgafar Abolaji, bricklayer, in prisons for alleged conspiracy and theft.
The three accused persons are standing trial for stealing iron materials from three different shops.
The Senior Magistrate, Mrs Hafsah Alege, gave the order that they be remanded in prison custody untill Jan. 21 for judgment.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Alhassan Jibrin, had told the court that three men reported the case at Inspector General of Police, X-squad Office, Ilorin on Jan. 5.
The complainants are: Yunus Abubakar, Zubairu Kabir, both of Apalara Street, Adeta area, Ilorin, and Abdullahi Isiaka of Onigo Compound, Anifowose Area, Ilorin.
Jibrin said that on the same date, the first and second accused persons, both from Apalara area, Ilorin and the third accused person of Ita-Amon area, Ilorin, stole some iron materials from the complainants’ shops.
He said that during police investigation, the accused persons confessed that they conspired and stole five pieces of motor doors from the third complainant’s shop valued at N35, 000.
The prosecutor said that the accused persons also confessed that sometimes in December 2018, they stole eight slaps of iron materials from the second complainant shop valued at N35, 000.
Jubrin further said that on the same date, the first and third accused persons were seen with one big engine block stolen from the first complainant and escaped until Jan. 10 when all the accused were arrested.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Section 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The three accused persons pleaded guilty of the offences.
