Kaduna – Public and private schools in Kaduna metropolis have complied with the 30-day closure as directed by the Kaduna State Government, as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
A correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) who monitored compliance in Kaduna metropolis, reports that most of the schools were under lock and key, including Islamiya schools.
NAN also reports that in some of the school, teachers and security personnel were seen sending children who came to school home.
Some of the schools visited include, Kaduna State University, Kaduna Polytechnic, Adeyemo College, Marafa Estate, First Anglican Church Mission Schools, Ilorin Road, and LEA Primary School, Maiduguri Road.
Others are Government Secondary School Doka, Lagos Road, Al-Madina International School, Unguwan Rimi, Goodnews Academy, Tafawa Balewa Way, and Sheik Lawal Abubakar Islamiya Nursery and Primary School, Maiduguri Road.
NAN recalls that the state Ministry of Education had on March 20, directed that all tertiary institutions, public and private schools be closed down as part of efforts to contain the spread of the dreaded virus in the state.
The Commissioner for Education, Dr Shehu Makarfi had in the circular, urged parents to watch over their children closely and ensure they practice high level of personal hygiene, especially regular hand washing.
Makarfi also advised that children should stay at home where necessary and avoid overcrowded gatherings and any activity that may put their health and others at risk.
In a related development, Dr Masa’udu Kazaure, Executive Secretary, National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), has directed all Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions to shut down.
Kazaure said in a circular to the Rectors and management of the institutions, that the closure was in compliance with the directive of the Federal Ministry of Education.
