Uyo – The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, Mr Gabriel Achong, has called on officers and men of the command to sustain the war against crime to reduce it to minimal level.
Achong, who made the call on Friday in Uyo at an interaction with newsmen, said that since he assumed duty in the state on Sept 2014, crime had been brought to minimal level through proactive measures.
“Akwa Ibom State under my watch has experienced a great reduction in crime.
“Proactive strategies predicated on high visibility vehicular and foot patrols; intelligence and community policing have led to smashing of many criminal syndicates.
“This laudable achievement was made possible through collaboration between the media and my gallant officers,’’ Achong said.
The commissioner, who is due for retirement, described his experience in the police as `very rewarding’ since he enlisted into the force on Aug. 1, 1980.
He advised the officers and men of the command to set target that would propel them to success and avoid petty jealousy.
He said, “do not go above your speed so that you can get to your destination; rather set target for yourselves that will move you to success.
He also advised communities in the state to form vigilante group and volunteer information to complement the police in providing security. (NAN)
