MARARABA (NASARAWA STATE) – A 20-year-old dancer, Sanusi Salanu, on Tuesday was arraigned in a Grade 1 Area Court, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, over causing grievous hurt.
Salanu, who resides in Mararaba, Nasarawa State, was arraigned on two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and causing grievous hurt.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Adaji, told the court that Mubarak Musa of Ruga Auta, Mararaba, Nasarawa State, lodged a report against the accused at the ‘A’ Division Police Station on June 10.
Adaji said on the same date, at about 4 p.m., the accused conspired with 2 others now at large, and attacked the complainant while he was coming back from Orange Market, Mararaba.
The prosecutor said they beat complainant up and used a knife to injure him in his leg.
“The accused and his friends at large inflicted a deep cut on the complainant’s leg and he is in the hospital receiving treatment,” he said.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 241 of the Penal Code.
If found guilty, the accused could spend eight years in prison with an option of fine.
The accused pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to him.
The Presiding Judge, Mr Albert Maga, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N100,000 and a surety in like sum.
Maga ordered that the surety must be of reputable character with landed property and must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
He also ordered that the surety must submit written undertaking that the accused would be of his best behaviour throughout his trial.
He adjourned the case to June 19 for further hearing.(NAN)
