Asaba – The Delta Ministry of Justice says it has commenced plans to ensure quick dispensation of justice in the state.
Mr Peter Mrakpor, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, stated this on Monday in Asaba, at an annual news conference of the ministry.
Mrakpor said that, to this end, the ministry was evolving a mechanism to ensure swift and adequate prosecution of criminals in the state.
The commissioner said that efforts were being made to ensure maintenance of law and order in the state.
He said that the ministry had provided 250 laptops and an e-library for lawyers in the state to ensure adequate delivery of justice and improve legal research in the state.
Mrakpor said that the ministry had also launched an official website, “www.deltastateministryofjustice.com.ng,” to enable stakeholders and investors to easily access vital information about the ministry.
He said that the ministry had trained and certified 73 mediators and 15 arbitrators in alternative dispute resolution practices through the institute of Chartered Mediators and Councilors of Nigeria.
The commissioner said that the ministry had also established a child’s right unit to handle rape and sexual violence cases in the state.
He said that the unit ensured that victims of rape and domestic violence received holistic medical attention, counseling and rehabilitation and added that it was currently handling three rape matters matters.
The commissioner said that the ministry had also created a public awareness programme aimed at enlightening the public on the need to respect the laws of the land.
Mrakpor added that the programme also aimed at highlighting the role of the ministry in promoting peace and security in the state. (NAN)
