Benin – The Edo Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday in Benin has reiterated the need for motorists to abide by highway codes and rules to reduce carnages on the roads.
Mr Samuel Odukoya, State Sector Commander of the Corps said this during the Annual West African Road Safety Organisation (WARSO) Week with a clarion on road users to be safety conscious.
According to Odukoya, the command has recorded low road traffic crashes in the last few years. This would be attributed to the command’s continued enforcement of its mandate as well as in line with the WARSO objective.
He explained that WARSO was created to carry out sensitisation and campaigns on the need for road users, especially motorists to abide by highway codes and rules, thereby reducing carnages on the roads.
He added that in line with this the FRSC had decided to now take the campaigns to churches, mosques, streets and even market placed.
He however, stressed the need for every citizen to ensure a safer road while also appealing to vehicle owners to ensure that every components of their vehicles were in good working condition.
Odukoya also advised motorists to avoid driving when they are sick.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the 2018 WARSO day was “WARSO in the last 10years”
NAN also reports that the command also carried out rally to create awareness on the essence of WARSO.
