Lagos- The Federal Road Safety Corps in Lagos, on Wednesday advised motorists against reckless driving to forestall road accidents during the Eid-El-Kabir.
The Deputy Corp Marshal, Training, Standardisation and Certification, Mr Ademola Lawal, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
He said that some motorists, especially commercial bus drivers were more likely to take undue advantage of the holiday to engage in reckless driving.
“I will advise them to drive safely, obey traffic rules and consider other road users.
“It is also important that motorists exercise patience with other road users so that we all can have a joyful festivity, “ Lawal said.
He said that excessive speed consumed more fuel and put the life span of vehicles at risk.
“You also put the lives of so many people in danger because you stand a greater risk of road traffic crash, “ Lawal said.
He said that the ongoing campaign toward the adoption of the limiters had been yielding result.
“It (limiter) is yielding results; even without the enforcement; and some organised private sector cab operators have started using it.
“Checks show that some private operators have started using it because they know the advantage.
“They would spend less in terms of fuel; and they would reduce the rate of the crashes on their vehicles,’’ he said
