Ado-Ekiti – The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Mr Kola Oluwawole, on Tuesday canvassed the need for close collaborations among the speakers of the 36 State Houses of Assembly across the nation.

This is contained in a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Stephen Gbadamosi, in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti and made available to newsmen.

The statement quoted Oluwawole to have suggested this at the Mass of thanksgiving held in honour of the Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly , Mr Victor Edoror, at the Annunciation Catholic Church, Irrua in Edo.

The statement said that the unity of state legislatures was needed to deepen the nation’s democracy, with the progress of each federating state translating to the progress of the nation in general.

“I decided to attend this programme all the way from Ekiti State, first to honour the Speaker, and secondly, to demonstrate that state legislatures are not meant to act in isolation.

“While there is independence of the legislature in each state, there must also be collaboration among state houses of assembly.

“When the legislative arm of each of the states is strong, decisive and focused, the states will develop; and this will translate to a virile nation in the end.

“That is the exact reason the leaders of legislatures across the country have to collaborate among themselves, identify areas of common interests and challenges with a view to solving such problems,” the statement said.

The statement said that the Deputy Governor of Edo, Dr. Egberanmen Odubu, the Bishop Donatus Ogun of the Catholic Diocese of Uromi, traditional rulers and several illustrious indigenes of Edo and other Nigerians attended the event. (NAN)
