ADO-EKITI (Sundiata Post) – Ekiti State civil servants will receive bank alerts on their mobile phones for their July salaries on Friday, July 31.
The state governor, Mr. Ayo Fayose, disclosed this while speaking as special guest at the 2015 annual conference of the Institute of Strategic Management, Nigeria (ISMN), held at the Afe Babalola Civic Centre, Ado-Ekiti, on Thursday.
He said the Ekiti State Government has never owed civil servants salary arrears since he became governor, adding that by Friday, public workers in the state would get “alert on their phones”.
Speaking on the theme of the conference, ‘Strategies for Poverty Alleviation: The Imperative of Food Security’, the governor said prompt payment of workers’ salaries is one way of alleviating poverty.
He said any leader who wants to alleviate poverty must make himself or herself accessible to the people, adding that his phone numbers are public knowledge. He said he personally replies text messages sent to him by the people of the state.
Earlier, Prof Yemisi Obashoro-John, president of the institute welcomed members to the conference. She said the theme of the conference was carefully chosen because poverty alleviation was a topical issue.
The founding president of the institute, Prof Austin Uwandulu, emphasised the need for Nigeria to work towards greatness by instituting good governance using strategic leadership.
