OYE (Ekiti) – The Ekiti State governor-elect, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has promised to transform the education sector during his four-year tenure.
Fayose made the promise on Thursday during a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Oye in Oye, Ekiti.
Fayose, who was represented by his close political associate, Mr Dipo Anisulowo, said the purpose of the visit was to know the challenges facing the three-year-old institution.
“The visit is to know the areas where the incoming administration can work together with the institution with a view to revitalising the education industry.
“The governor-elect is eager to start work and transform the education sector which is one of his foremost areas of interest,’’ he said.
Responding, Prof. Isaac Asuzu, the vice chancellor of the institution, said the school would partner with the incoming administration in his plan to revolutionise the education sector.
According to Asuzu, the turbulent history of FUOYE’s establishment, which led to it having two campuses from the onset, now puts a heavy burden on the young institution. “In spite of this development, the university continues to be the first among the 12 new federal universities that were established at same time,’’ he said.
The vice-chancellor assured the governor-elect that the host communities would benefit in the area of entrepreneurship training and research.
It will be recalled Ikole-Ekiti and Oye-Ekiti competed to host the university at inception.
He said that the good relationship between the university and the state would foster the needed development.
NAN reports that Fayose is expected to be inaugurated on Oct. 16 and take over the reins of power from Gov. Kayode Fayemi. (NAN)
