Sokoto –  The Deputy President-General (South), Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Dr Sakariyau Babalola, has called on Nigerian leaders to emulate the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, in the promotion of peace, unity and understanding.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Babalola gave the task in Sokoto on Sunday when he led a delegation of Muslim leaders from southern Nigeria to the state to witness the 10th anniversary of the Sultan.

He said: “We came to celebrate the leadership style of the Sultan who is a bridge, not just a bridge builder.

“The Sultan has unified all Muslim Ummah in the south and Nigeria as a whole.”

Babalola further noted that the Sultan had always wanted the best for Muslims the world over.

The cleric also averred that Abubakar III has been promoting peaceful co-existence among Muslims and non-Muslims across the world.

“We are happy with his leadership. We are solidly behind him.

“We pray Allah grant him good health and wisdom to continue with it.

“We had prayed Allah to give us a true leader and Allah answered our prayer by giving us the Sultan who is trying his best to take the Muslim Ummah to the next level,” he stated.

Babalola also described the visit as first of its kind by the Muslim community from the South to Abubakar III.
