Enugu – The Enugu State Government has approved N216 million for the provision of public utilities at the state’s new secretariat complex.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr Godwin Udeuhele, made the disclosure on Thursday while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state’s Executive Council meeting on Thursday in Enugu.
Udeuhele explained that the money was for the provision of electricity, water and other ancillary facilities at the complex.
“The provision of these utilities will enhance the effective utilisation of the complex by workers.
“Council approved the sponsorship of an Executive Bill for the domestication of the Child Rights Act (2003) in the state.
“It also re-validated the Exco approval memo (2013), 47, which earlier approved the development of oil truck parks in Enugu and four other strategic locations in the state,’’ he said.
Udeuhele said that the parks which would be built at the 9th Mile Corner, Obollo-Affor, 4-Corner and Ugwuoba was to enable government to provide parking spaces for oil tankers and generate revenue and employment.
He said that government would engage a reputable law firm to challenge the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Federal Government (FG) over the forfeiture of some valuable property to the FG.

The commissioner said that the decision was sequel to a memorandum presented by the state’s Attorney-General, Chief Miletus Eze, on the recovery of the property.
“The property belonged to the Renaissance University Teaching Hospital, Ceuna Communications Ltd. (Cosmo FM), Capital City Automobiles Nigeria Ltd. and Rainbow-Net Ltd.
“It was forfeited to the Federal Government by an order of a Federal High Court in Lagos on July 8 and we want to ensure that the properties are returned to Enugu State,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the property belonged to the former governor of the state, Dr Chimaroke Nnamani, who was prosecuted by the EFCC for misappropriation of state’s funds during his eight years administration between 1999 and 2007. (NAN)
