ILORIN – Enyimba International Football Club of Aba on Wednesday in Ilorin compounded the woes of hosts Kwara United FC by defeating them 3-2.
The Match Day 15 fixture in the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) was played at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin.
Enyimba’s Ifeanyi George capitalised on a defensive error by Kwara United players to score their first goal in the 25th minute.
All efforts by Kwara United to turn the game round were thwarted by the visitors who seemed to be putting all foot right.
They however extended their lead by scoring their second goal in the 34th minute through Christian Obiozor after a dazzling display.
Ahmed Jimoh who just returned from injury for Kwara United almost gave the host some hope in the 35th minute, but he failed.
Experienced midfielder Olufemi Oladapo however reduced the tally before the half ended to give the home fans some level of hope.
The hosts returned for the second half looking the better side and they seemed to have responded to their coaches’ half time talk and dominated some of the proceedings.
But all their efforts were not yielding results, by either hitting the woodwork or being miskicked.
Halilu Obadaki’s 69th minute effort, which was parried by goalkeeper Chijioke Ejiogu, looked to be their best until Enyimba added salt to Kwara United’s wound in the 75th minute.
Centre referee Hadiza Musa from Adamawa awarded a penalty kick which Ojobo Markson scored in the 77th minute.
After substitute Bernard Okorowanta almost scored again for the visitors in the 86th minute, with his effort wide, Kwara United reduced the tally through Dare Ojo in the 90th minute.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that it was the second time Kwara United were losing at home this season.
