Lagos – A Water expert, Dr Akomeno Oteri, Managing Director of Akute Geo-Resource, on Monday called for massive infrastructural development toward provision of potable water.
Oteri, who is a water consultant, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that few people in the country have access to potable public water supply.
“There is need for everybody to invest in provision of potable water and also ensure infrastructure development in water sector.
“If we don’t invest and protect our source of water, it can be contaminated.
“Like what is happening in most communities where people are suffering from lack of potable water due to oil pollution through breaking of oil pipelines.
“We need to protect the source of water for the future generation,’’ he said.

Oteri further called for appreciation of water producers and those involved in water processing.
He called on the government to monitor and ensure that workers at water stations are given necessary tools to work.
“The people working at water stations need to be well motivated so that they can work harder and also ensure that treated water is supply to the people.
“It is high time we start to recognise people that are working hard to ensure provision of water, both for drinking, agriculture and other industrial purposes.
“The UN identified people, especially women who go out to ensure adequate provision of water especially at home, and those who deal on water materials.
“Not only that people that deal with provision of tools and equipment use in processing water should be respected, because water is life,’’ he said.
Besides, Oteri tasked the government on the need to pay more attention to water industry. (NAN)
