NAF Football Club, Yakubu SamboABUJA – The Head Coach of NAF Football Club, Yakubu Sambo, on Saturday in Abuja expressed regrets about his team’s inability to utilise their goalscoring chances against FC Abuja.

FC Abuja knocked out the competition defending champions in the semi-finals of the FCT Federation Cup contest.

FC Abuja beat NAF FC, their Nigeria Nation-Wide League (NNWL) counterparts, 2-1 in their fixture played Saturday at the Area 3 Sports Complex in Abuja to advance to the final.

NAF FC were however bidding to win the cup for a fourth time in five editions, after winning the 2010, 2011 and 2013 editions.

“It is evident that it was not my team’s day as we were very unlucky not to have scored about three or four goals before the end of the first half.

“But this is football for you. It is not like we met an entirely different team because we are very much familiar with FC Abuja.

“My boys gave a good account of themselves, dominating the game from start to finish and if we had taken all our chances today it would have been a different story.

“We actually prepared very well for the match today but it was not to be, so we will have to go back and prepare for next year,’’ Sambo said.

The coach said his concentration would now be on the NNWL Division Two as they were on course to winning the league.

“We are currently topping the NNWL Division Two `E’ table with 17 points.

“Even though we could not defend our FCT Federation Cup title, our goal is to finish strong in the league and gain promotion to Division One,’’ he said.(NAN)
