ABUJA – The Chairman, FCT Hockey Association, Ahmed Mabudi, on Thursday called for maintenance of the hockey pitches at the Abuja National Stadium.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, Mabudi said that facilities at the stadium, including the hockey pitches, had been neglected.
“As you can see, nobody cares about the maintenance. If things continue this way, in the next two years, nobody will come in here, not to talk of using the facilities,” Mabudi said.
The chairman said that the pitches at the stadium were the only standard ones in the FCT and as such should be adequately maintained. [eap_ad_2]
Mabudi said that the only way to develop the sport at the grassroots was for government to encourage participation by provision of facilities.
“Government must also assist in organising competitions amongst groups, clubs and institutions as a means of encouraging participation in the sport,” he said.
The chairman solicited the support of individuals as well as corporate organisations to promote competitions and enhance development of the sport. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
