Ibadan – Heavy rains stalled the second half of the 2016 Federation Cup men’s quarter-final match between Rivers United Football Club and Enyimba International on Wednesday in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the downpour had began immediately after the match’s first half, which ended goalless.
Speaking to newsmen, James Odeniran, the Chairman of Oyo State Football Association, said the match had been postponed till 7.30 a.m. on Thursday at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
Odeniran said that all the efforts made to see if the match could be finished was stalled by water from the rains, which had enveloped parts of the pitch.
He, however, said the teams would play only the match’s remaining 45 minutes on Thursday.
NAN also reports that supporters of the two teams, who had come to support them and catch a glimpse of good football, were disappointed by the downpour.(NAN)
