Yola  –  The Federal Government on Monday said  that it has donated hundreds of tonnes of maize to 23 Internally Displaced Persons host communities in three Local Government Areas of Adamawa.

The Local Government areas are: Yola North, Yola South and Girei.

Mr Sa’ad Bello, Operation Officer in charge of Adamawa and Taraba National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria in Yola.

Bello said that the development was part of the Federal Government’s food intervention, through NEMA, to IDPs living in host communities in the state.

‘‘From October 2016 to date over 5, 000 households in sheltering Internally Displaced Persons were supported with hundreds of tonnes of maize as part of government’s intervention in the state,’’ Bello said.

The Operation Officer said that each household received four bags of maize.

He said that the intervention was designed and implemented by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to improve the living standard of the IDPs living in host communities.
