ABUJA – The Federal Government will soon provide the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), with more capturing machines to enable it render quick and better services to the public.
Mr Chukwuemeka Obua, NIS Public Relations Officer, made the disclosure on Friday in Abuja in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that capturing machines available at passport offices across the country were inadequate, adding that this often caused delay in processing passports.
NAN reports that inadequate capturing machines at some passport offices often force applicants to wait for days or weeks before being captured.
“If you go round passport offices especially the one in the headquarters here in Abuja, you will notice that there are not enough capturing machines and even the ones available are overworked.
“Almost all the services we render to the public like issuance of visas, passport, Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) amongst others, are often done through service providers,” he said.
He said that the NIS had functioning help lines which the public could use to report any problem they encounter. [eap_ad_1] Obua urged the public to call the number 08033000487 to also report officers who conducted themselves in an unprofessional manner.
“A woman called our helpline from Awka and complained that she paid N35, 000 for the 64-page passport but was issued the 32-page instead.
“We asked her the name of the officer who attended to her was but she said she did not know.
The PRO said that all officers of the NIS have name tags and urged the public to give the names of erring officers so that they could be sanctioned.
According to him, sanction of erring officers will enable the service eliminate corruption and render good service to the public. (NAN)
