Lokoja – The first beauty contest, tagged “Omidan Oge of Okunland land“, aimed at adding to value and boosting self-confidence in the life of Okun girls in kogi is being planned for Aug.10 in Kabba, Kogi.
The Founder of the planned project Mrs Omoleye Aiyelabowo, who disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lokoja on Friday, said it would also empower women and youths of the state, adding that the event would boost the social and economic activities in the area.
“The event is to celebrate our maidens (Omidan) in Okunland (Oworos, Koros and Omuos) who have kept themselves in checks and maintain their honour and dignity in spite moral decadence abound in our society.
“It is alsoa key to building self-confidence against abuse, molestation and the spirit of entrepreneurship that will showcase Okun in the world map and “promote our Aso Ibile Okun trademark.“
“I will also be celebrating parents that have been upright in the upbringing of their girl-child and also empower those parents that would have done so but lack the capacity,” she said.
The founder said there would be 3 auditioning for participants before the main event, where the finalists would unveil their talents, adding that the final camping of the finalists will commence two weeks before the event at Kabba.
“It will also avail them the opportunity to study, learn and showcase their skills during their stay.“
Aiyelabowo said the grand finale of the event would be graced by Obas from Yorubaland and other personalities, where Omidan Oge would be crowned with the star prize of Picanto Car and other gifts.
“Honours will be given to some selected Okun sons and daughters that have distinguished themselves in their respective fields as they will bag the Ogo Okun Awards”.
“The event will be climaxed with the unveiling of Okun connect, a forum where all Okun sons and daughters, worldwide, will get to know themselves thereby fostering harmony and peace.”
The founder solicited support from the stakeholders, well to do sons and daughter of the soil and Nigeria at large, to make the programme memorable.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the first Miss Nigeria, which was organised in 1957, was won by the then Miss Grace Oyelude from the then Kabba province, now in Kogi West Senatorial district. (NAN)
