Johannesburg – A don, Dr Jude Enebechi, says exposure of academics in Nigeria to national and international conferences will improve quality of education in the country.
Enebechi, a public health teacher at Enugu State College of Education (Technical), stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Johannesburg South Africa, on Sunday.
He said that lecturers would apply lessons from such conferences to enhance teaching and learning in their institutions and the country.
The don, who is in South Africa to attend an International Conference on Education, said that education had three major driving forces.
“They are cost, access, and quality. Access means making everybody having access to education; cost is reducing the cost without compromising quality while quality is about standard.
“When academics attend such conferences, it will begin to change the paradigm in the country,” he said.
Enebechi said the conference in South Africa, which would begin on Monday, was aimed at redirecting people and rethinking education in the 21st century.
He said that academics from Africa would use the conference to brainstorm and point the way forward on improving education in the continent.
“ In Nigeria, improvement in the quality of education is ongoing, the challenge is implementation,” Enebechi said.
