ABUJA – Stakeholders in the arts and craft sector on Tuesday in Abuja called on the Federal Government to establish craft cottage industries to enhance growth in the sector.
This is part of the resolution at the Arts and Crafts Exhibition 2014 organised by the National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC).
The communiqué was jointly signed by Prof. Ben Ekanem and Mr Victor Mark-Onyegbu, Chairman and Secretary of the Communiqué Drafting Committee.
The communiqué urged the NCAC to cooperate with the National Board of Technology Incubation and other relevant agencies and parastatals to assist craftsmen and women to attain optimum skills.
It called for capacity building initiatives through workshops that facilitate exchange of skills among craftsmen at local and international levels.
“Support should be given for initiatives that would bring about value addition to enhance the competitiveness of crafts in the global market’’, the stakeholders said.
They also called on NCAC to support the establishment of incubation and production centres for arts and crafts.
“This should be done in all the states to stem the tide of youth restiveness and enhance the acquisition of skills.’’ (NAN)
