Paris – Laurent Fabius, French Foreign Minister, said government had on Tuesday begun reconnaissance flight missions over Syria.
He said the move followed an announcement by President Francois Hollande that the flights would be conducted with the aim of gathering intelligence for possible future airstrikes against the Islamic State.

“These reconnaissance flights will determine the appropriate time and action that can be taken,” he said.
French media reported that two Rafale fighter jets conducted the mission.
It cited a military source, saying the that mission started from the Persian Gulf, and that the planes were equipped with video and photo recording equipment. (dpa/NAN)
