Yenagoa – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Bayelsa says it will establish Road Safety Clubs in secondary schools across the state to inculcate road safety culture in the students.
The State Sector Commander, Mr Ikechukwu Igwe, made this known in an interview with the News Agency (NAN) in Yenagoa on Thursday.
Igwe said the initiative would educate the children on road safety tips.
“We have visited some stakeholders in the state on ways to consolidate on the existing good structures to enable us reduce the rate of road accidents.
“Our approach is to consolidate and introduce some innovations to promote traffic rules and regulations, because our target is to make Bayelsa less-accident-prone state in the country.
“We want to make FRSC public friendly; so, we have plans to increase the number of safety clubs in the state; first, the Road Safety Club will be established in all schools in the state.
“With this, the students will be conversant with road safety tips including the traffic rules and regulations,” he said.
The sector commander hailed the contributions of the Chairman of Bayelsa Traditional Council, King Alfred Diete-Spiff, the Nigeria Police and other stakeholders to the success of the commission’s operations in the state.
