Awka – The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Anambra, Mr Sunday Ajayi, has warned articulated vehicles drivers not to abandon them on the newly-built overpass in Awka.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka on Thursday, Ajayi said they rather use the service lanes on both sides of the overpass any time their vehicles developed problems.
He said that the commission would not allow any heavy vehicle to stay atop the overpass to avoid road crashes.
The commander said that his marshals had observed that most articulated vehicles found it difficult to ascend the overpass and were concerned with the safety of other road users.
The sector commander called on other motorists to give safe distance to articulated vehicles as following them `bumper-to-bumper’ exposed them to danger.
He pleaded with the motoring public to exercise patience with the state of roads, especially around the overpass as the roads would soon be properly marked with signs.
Ajayi also expressed the readiness of the commission to ensure accident-free roads in the state, and called on the motoring public to assist it by obeying traffic rules, avoid drunk driving and phone calls or conversing while driving.
He also harped on the need for proper training in the act of driving before hitting the roads. (NAN)
