Lafia – The Nasarawa State Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday warned motorists against dangerous overtaking on highways.
Mrs Faustina Alegbe, the FRSC Sector Commander in state, gave the warning at the monthly executive meeting of Nasarawa State Chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lafia.
Alegbe attributed the high rate of accidents in the state to reckless driving and overtaking by motorists, especially commercial drivers who do not obey traffic rules.
“You are our major stakeholders. That is why we keep appealing to you to always abide by safety rules so that the rate of accidents on our roads will reduce.
“There are few steps that can reduce the menace of reckless driving. One of them is the speed limiting device,” she said.
Alegbe said that the FRSC was a partner in progress with motorists, especially commercial drivers, hence the need to work together to reduce the rate of accidents on the highways.
She advised members of the union to always drive with care and obey rules of the union.
Mr Salihu Adamu, the State Chairman of NURTW, said the monthly meeting of the union was to discuss issues affecting members.
He said that the state secretariat of the union had recorded tremendous achievements and called for more support from members. (NAN)
