Katsina – Gov. Aminu Masari of Katsina State on Tuesday called on the Federal Government to rehabilitate rail lines to facilitate transportation of goods to inland dry ports in parts of the the country.
Masari made the call in Katsina while receiving the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers Council, Alhaji Hassan Bello during a courtesy visit.
The governor said the state government had provided land, road, water and other facilities to make the dry port project in Funtua Local Government Area a reality.
“Our Federal roads also need to be rehabilitated to save lives and property when the dry ports in parts of the country commence operations.
Earlier speaking, Bello said the dry ports were established to accelerate trade, adding that a port was established in each of the six geo-political zones to facilitate local and international trade.
He said the port in Funtua, when established, would assist the state to export its various agricultural produce to the world.
The executive secretary urged state governments where such ports were established to provide parking lot for vehicles conveying goods outside town.
He assured the governor that the council would participate in the forthcoming Katsina Economic and Investment Summit taking place between May 9 and May 11.(NAN)
