Asaba – Most Rev. Nicholas Okoh, Primate, Church of Nigeria (the Anglican Communion) on Saturday urged Nigerians to promote peace and unity in their communities to ensure the growth of the nation.
The primate gave the advice while delivering a sermon at the funeral service of Late Mrs Alice Emefiele, at Agbor, IKa South Local Government Area of Delta.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the late Mrs Alice Emefiele was the mother of the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Godwin Emefiele.
The cleric said that Nigerians should always promote peace and unity in their communities to engender growth and development in the nation.
“We need unity and peace in this country to make progress, we also need justice and righteousness to achieve success in the struggle against corruption in this country,” he said.
He said that it was not the longevity of life that matters but the contributions made to the development of the society by individual.
Okoh said that the impact made on people’s life and the society was what matters, adding that Late Mrs Emefiele positively impacted on the lives of those around her and her community.
In his speech, the CBN Governor appreciated everybody, who had come to join his family to give their late mother a befitting burial.
Emefiele thanked God for his late mother who had trained and brought them up in the way and fear of God and had taught them that hard work pays in life.
“I enjoin mothers to bring up their children in the way of God, correct them when they are wrong and teach them to be hard working in life, they will turn out to be good citizens of the society,” Emefiele said.
At the occasion, President Muhammadu Buhari, was represented by Mr Babachir Lawal, Secretary to the Government of Federation.
Other dignitaries were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Minister for Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, Dr Ibe Kachukwu, Minister for State for Petroleum, Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta.
