Umuahia- Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia and his wife, Odochi, waited for about 30 minutes for voting to commence at the Ugba Community Primary School polling centre in Umuahia.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that voting materials did not arrive at the centre, which had six polling units, until about 4 p.m.
Voters, who turned out in large numbers, including a nonagenarian, Mrs Ochoeze Iroagbara, also waited for hours after the accreditation to cast their votes.

The governor and the wife, who had earlier visited the centre but went back when they learnt that the materials were not ready, voted at 4.10 p.m. and 4.15 p.m., respectively.
The situation was the same at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia, where accredited voters also waited after the accreditation to be able to cast their votes.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Prof. Selina Oko, who came to ascertain the situation at Ugba Community Primary School centre, expressed surprise at the absence of voting materials by 4 p.m.
Oko said that the materials were distributed to the local government offices of the commission on Thursday and wondered why the electoral officer for Umuahia North Local Government Area did not make them available on time.
She said the delay would be investigated and that appropriated measures would be taken if anyone infringed on the arrangement.
The exercise was generally peaceful but threatened by rampant cases of malfunctioning card readers as well as delay in the accreditation of voters. (NAN)
