Uburu (Ebonyi) – Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebonyi has pledged that workers in the state would receive their January salary by the 15th of the month.
Umahi made the pledge on Tuesday in his hometown, Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area when a delegation of the Nigerian Labour Congress paid him a New Year homage.
“l shifted the execution of projects in December to pay 100 per cent salary increase to workers in the junior category and 50 per cent to those in the senior category.
“Workers should expect their January salaries in the next 13 days as we will always enhance the welfare of workers,” he said.
“The initial misunderstanding between this government and the organised labour was divine.
“The situation was brought by God because it made us to be on our toes and reinforced the zeal within us to take adequate care of workers,” he said.
The governor attributed the successes recorded by his administration to obedience to God’s words and determination to serve the people.

“We cannot implement a N101 billion budget this year without enhancing the wellbeing of the workers in all ramification.
“We are totally committed to fully implement the 2016 budget and tackle corruption to its logical conclusion,” he said.
He said that after the festivities, he would collaborate with the workers in organising and moving the state forward.
“I will never forget your love, commitment and contributions to the emergence and success of this administration,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Joint Public Service Negotiating Council in the state, Mr Ikechukwu Nwafor, said that the visit was to felicitate with the governor in the festive season.
“We cannot celebrate the Christmas and New Year without identifying with the governor of the state.
“We pray that this year will be better for the government and the workers to move the state forward,” he said. (NAN)
