Yola – A Non-Governmental Organisation, Honour Society, has awarded scholarships to 50 pupils of Abubakar Namtari Memorial Primary School in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa.
Tthe President of the society, Ms Hephzber Obiorah, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Friday that the group offered the scholarship as part of its community services.
Obiorah said that the beneficiaries emerged after a special selection test administered by the society.
“The test subjects are English and Mathematics and it involved primary one to five pupils.
“Those that passed the exam were sponsored throughout their secondary school and even pay for their exit exams the SSCE and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination,” Obiorah said.
She said that the scholarship award was a continuous programme targeting some government primary schools that were part of the university’s neighbouring communities.

Obiorah said that the scholarship was also intended to assist less privileged families who could not afford to pay school fees for their talented children.
According to her, some pupils were withdrawn from government schools in the state because their parents cannot afford to pay the fees as low as of N50.
She said that the association planned to capture more pupils in the programme in future for the educational well being of Nigerian beneficiaries.
Obiorah said that fundraising doors were always open for any spirited individual, groups and organisations to support the less privileged pupils to acquire quality education. (NAN)
