Gunmen kidnap Nsukka town union president

Nsukka (Enugu State) – Mr Augustine Alumona, the President, Nsukka Town Development Union, has been kidnapped by gunmen.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Alumona was kidnapped on the new Opi-Ugwugo Nike road on his way to Enugu on Thursday.

A close relation of the victim who pleaded anonymity told NAN in Nsukka on Friday that Alumona left home at about 6a.m. on Thursday.

“I saw him on Thursday morning when he said he was going to Enugu to attend a meeting.

“I was surprised some hours later when the news of his kidnap came.

“He is an easy-going human being who has been piloting the affairs of the town very well.

“I wonder why he will be a target of kidnap’’, he said.

The Secretary General of Oha Nsukka Assembly, Mr Ikechukwu Obayi, described the incident as shocking and unbelievable.
“Alumona is a good man who has been conducting the affairs of the community to the admiration of members of the general public, as he could hardly hurt a fly.

“The matter has been reported to Enugu state police command and I hoped that he will be rescued soonest’’, he said.

The Area Commander of Nigeria Police Nsukka, Mr Musa Haladu, confirmed the incident.

He, however, said the matter was being handled by Enugu state command “since it is within its jurisdiction.’’

Haladu said the police will soon uncover the circumstances surrounding the kidnap.
