HADEJIA (JIGAWA) – The Hadejia Local Government Council of Jigawa on Saturday said it had adopted effective campaign strategies to mobilise participation in the ongoing polio immunisation in the area.
The Health Educator in the council, Malam Idris Maigemu, said this at the National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) inaugurated its ninth round of oral polio immunisation exercise in the state.
Maigemu said that the local council had conducted various community sensitisation activities to educate the people on the dangers and preventive ways of the disease.
He said that the council had trained about 50 town criers and women to mobilise participation in the exercise.
He said that the town criers were exposed to modern communication skills, adding that this would enable them educate the people and encourage parents to take their children for immunisation.
Alhaji Mukaddas Gimba, the Manager, NPI in charge of Hadejia said that 41, 335 children were expected to be immunised against the disease in the area.
Gimba said that more than 240 health personnel and vaccinators were deployed for the exercise.
He added that the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHDA) had supplied 48, 000 doses of Oral Polio Vaccines (OPC) for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
Gimba tasked immunisation personnel to be dedicated to their duties urging the communities to also cooperate with the workers for success of the exercise. (NAN)
