LAGOS – The House of Representatives Committee on Education, on Thursday urged the authorities of University of Lagos (UNILAG) to step up efforts to remain a top-class tertiary institution in the country.
This is contained in a statement issued in Lagos by Mr Olagoke Oke, the Deputy Registrar, Information Unit of UNILAG.
According to the statement, the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Education, Rep [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]Sulaiman Aminu, gave the advice during a recent visit to UNILAG.
The statement said the 10-man delegation of the committee on education visited the university, as part [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]of their oversight function.
It said Aminu lauded the university authorities on its achievements and the accelerated pace of ongoing projects within the academic community.
The statement said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Rahamon Bello, made a presentation on TETFund [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]allocation to the university, from 2012 till date.
Bello said the authorities spent the fund on construction and furnishing of the Creative Arts building, Module A2 and B.
According to the statement, part of the fund has also been spent on the building and furnishing of blocks of offices and classrooms in the Faculty of Engineering.
It said that part of the TETFund largesse was expended on the procurement and installation of research and teaching equipment at the Entrepreneurship Centre and the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi-Araba.
The statement, however, identified lack of land for the construction of hostels and staff quarters as a major challenge. (NAN)
