Is the Bureau of Statistics a research unit of any political party in Nigeria? You can’t enthusiastically quote their unemployment figures against former President Jonathan yesterday, and discredit their figures about unemployment and poverty today. Is the reliability of statistics determined by reality or the biased partisan interpretation of competing political interests? Former Finance Minister Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala also rejected unemployment and poverty figures released by the Bureau of Statistics. Was the Bureau established to publish only the figures that are favourable to the government or party in power? If that is what you think, then you have misconceived the function of the agency.
