OWERRI – The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Emeka Ihedioha, on Friday advised Nigerians to remain solidly behind the Federal Government in its Transformation Agenda.
Ihedioha spoke while distributing 500KVA transformers to 11 communities in the Ahiazu Mbaise, Aboh Mbaise, Ezinihitte Mbaise, Ngor Okpala and Owerri Municipal areas in Owerri, Imo State.
The legislator said such support was necessary as the Transformation Agenda had enhanced the quality of lives of the masses.
“The privatisation of the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) was a good measure by the Federal Government to ensure regular and uninterrupted power supply in all nooks and crannies of country,’’ he said.
The deputy speaker said the privatisation package had earlier given birth to 120 million subscribers to telephone, saying the Federal Government then privatised the PHCN for more efficiency and productivity. [eap_ad_1] Ihedioha said the move was a huge success in electricity supply in the country.
He urged for continuity for the PDP-controlled Federal Government “to enable President Goodluck Jonathan consolidate his Transformation Agenda for the people’’.
The deputy speaker charged the benefitting communities to adopt a maintenance culture and guard against vandalisation of the facilities.
He advised them to ensure regular payment of their bills to avoid disconnection by the officials of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
Ihedioha promised to extend the facility to other needy communities and advised the recipients to seek professional advice in installing the transformers for maximum use.
He said he had made adequate arrangements for the transportation of the transformers to the various communities.
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chairman of the EEDC, Mr Kester Enwereonu, reiterated the determination of the Federal Government to ensure regular supply of electricity in all parts of the country.
He promised to take necessary steps to install the transformers at no financial cost to the communities and urged the indigenes to safeguard the facilities.(NAN)
