Bauchi – The Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Agency, Mr Adamu Gamawa, has said that the agency will in 2018 focus more on community engagement, in order to improve routine immunization.
Adamu stated this while briefing newsmen in Bauchi on Wednesday.
He said that there were some cases of non-compliance to routine immunization in the state and the agency would work with the state Emirate Council Committee on Health to resolve such issues.
“In 2018, the agency will focus on improving community engagement in routine immunization and we intend to work with the traditional institution.
“We will work with the emirate council committee on health to mobilize households so as to resolve the issue of non compliance and to actively involve our communities.
“Some people are still not accepting routine immunization. We were able to kick out polio when the traditional institutions were involved,” he said.
Gamawa said that routine immunization was funded adequately under the tripod arrangement among Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation, Dangote Foundation and the State Government.
He said primary healthcare centers in the state were provided with adequate vaccines, solar storage facilities and other immunization consumables.
He said that human resource for health had continued to be the major challenge in discharging primary healthcare services to the teeming population of the state.
The News agency of Nigeria (NAN) recall that the agency has commenced its 2017 Measles campaign for children from nine months to five years.
